FAQ - CONTINUOUS DATA PROCTION

What is Continuous Data Protection (CDP) ?

Continuous data protection (CDP), is a storage system in which all the data within your hosting account is backed up three times a day. In effect, CDP creates an electronic journal of complete storage snapshots, one storage snapshot for every 8 hours, every day.

In the event of deleting / overwriting a remote file, infection with a virus or Trojan, or if a file becomes mutilated or corrupted and the problem is not discovered until some time later, it is always possible to recover the most recent clean copy of the affected file. A CDP system with disk storage offers data recovery in a matter of seconds -- much less time than is the case with tape backups or archives.

What is the advantage having of Continuous Data Protection for my hosting account?

Continuous Data Protection insures your all of your critcal hosted data (website files, emails, databases etc.) against loss / corruption / deletion etc. This is achieved by automatically the service taking a 'snapshot' of your hosting account every 8 hours, and storing 2 weeks of these snapshots at a remote location to the server where your hosting account resides. Any of these snapshots can be used to restore your account, with a few clicks of the mouse in a couple of minutes.
